I've written enough poetry to fill a book. And despite having never attended a 4-year university or gotten a degree, I've been published a few times by St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
I don't write as much poetry these days, but when I do, it's fairly heavy.
This particular poem I'm going to share with you I wrote in late 1999 when I was 20 years old. If you like it, and you'd like me to share more, please leave a comment. Thanks.
The Gravity of Habit
The gravity of habit
Turns me in normal circles;
The mighty vortex Routine.
I practice the same acts,
I travel the same paths,
Dumb to the vast unseen.
My cyclic life lacks spice
Whirling in staunch control—
These days have grown too sane.
Dispel this common demon,
And the numbing power Time;
Their comforts serve no gain.
Ryan, you never cease to amaze me. I have never met a writer that is as versatile as you.
Bravo

Very nice, Ryan. I shared it with my blog. Describes me perfectly at 20, and you know... yesterday. But I'm breaking out of that circle!
