Desperate is a mindset. But it manifests in many ways.
One way is making an abundance of affiliate offers. Just plugging product after product after product... and almost never making any commissions.
Promoting too many affiliate products too fast spells "desperate." It also spells "I'm only interested in your money."
Suggestion: If you're going to promote affiliate products, as a side business to your copywriting business, or as a primary source of income, choose what you will promote carefully. Then send out multiple emails promoting that product. Don't promote once, then skip to the next thing. Demonstrate your belief in the product by having some staying power.
To draw an analogy, I often say to copywriting prospects that I'm not a hit-and-run copywriter. I'm going to be there to support them. I'm not going to disappear.
Likewise, don't be a hit-and-run affiliate marketer. Stick with a product for a bit before you move to the next one.
I give you this advice, in part, because I need to be more selective--and committed--to the products I promote.
I suspect this is one reason why product launches work well. The people who are promoting are focusing on that one product for a period of weeks. Nothing breaks their focus. They sell one thing and one thing only for the duration of the launch.
Keep this in mind in 2007.
