I launched my freelance copywriting career on Monday, June 13, 2005. Not because I had some master plan to become a copywriter... but out of necessity.
You see, I quit my job on April 19, 2005 for an opportunity that didn't play out quite like I expected. My financial cushion was becoming quite thin. And since I'm married and have two young children, I needed to figure out a way to support my family.
And so I leveraged the one talent I have that I was reasonbly sure I could depend on: copywriting.
So far, the results have been quite good. I've attracted three clients and landed six copywriting jobs. Total value: $3,050.
Based on my early success, it seems I'll be able to make a long-term go of this copywriting thing. I certainly hope so.
An observation I made to my wife: copywriting has really simplified my life. There's no dichotomy now between what I do for work and what I do for fun.
I like to write sales copy. I like to read about writing sales copy. I like to write about writing sales copy.
The conflict between work and play has vanished. If you can work out a similar arrangement for yourself, I highly suggest it. It simplifies life so much.
Hey Ryan,
Your Blog looks great!
Could you tell who designed the site for you?

Actually, I designed this blog using Typepad's templates. Typepad is a paid blogging service, but I've found it's very good.
