Product Launch Generates $6 Million in a Single Day... without a Product!

Product launches are exciting. It's always fun to see how much money can be made in a single day.

A product launch of historical proportions happened yesterday. But this one was different.

No product was for sale. No pre-Product Launch email sequence was used. And the launch had nothing to do with another expensive Internet marketing home study course.

Then how in the world was $6.026 million made in one day?

Simple. People were buying ideas. More specifically, the twin ideas of freedom and personal liberty.

That's what motivated over 58,000 people to donate to Ron Paul in a single 24-hour period.

Over $6 million was donated in one day (Dec. 16, 2007), shattering the old record of $5.7 million set by John Kerry in 2004.

So far, in the 4th quarter of 2007 alone, over $18 million has been donated to Ron Paul by over 118,000 Americans. That's a lot of support for a product launch without a product.

Now, if only Ron Paul would release a new free report titled, "The Death of Politics." ;-)

Kudos to John Manley for linking the Tea Party with the idea of a product launch.

John Manley's Most Important Email of the Year

What follows is an email John Manley sent out on Wednesday, November 21. The subject line of the email was "The Most Important Email of the Year." The email has nothing to do with copywriting, yet I believe it is as important as John claims. By the way, as you read, keep in mind that John is Canadian, which makes his message that much more powerful.

[Email starts here.]

WARNING: This email may get a few people angry. The video link at the end may really tick some people off. Sorry. The rest of you will probably consider it the most important email I've written this year.

THAT SAID: I encourage you to read every single last word. I'm not selling you anything. I'm not warming you up to sell you something later. Consider this a "public service" message of the highest importance, to your future, your children's future, your success as an entrepreneur, and your freedom as a human being. If this message offends anyone's viewpoint, please overlook it or unsubscribe yourself.

Dear Reader,

Many marketers say you should never talk about two things with your subscribers: politics and religion.

Yet, I know some of the most successful online and offline success personas don't hesitate to talk about either.

Today I wanted to talk about a political issue that affects us as copywriters and entrepreneurs (as well human beings).

First... As much as I have tried in the past to not be apathetic about politics (both national and international) it tends to happen to me. I think it's sort of a self-defense mechanism. There is such corruption, greed and unforgivable behavior going on amongst many of the world's governments. I'm not pointing any fingers at any particular nation, party, leader, etc.

I didn't even vote in the last Canadian election because I simply didn't want any of them in office. I didn't think any of them were offering much change. It seemed like I would be doing my country a better favor by staying home with my family.

But Canada is in trouble.

The United States is in even more trouble.

The Auditor General for the States predicts that the country will be bankrupt in 15 years. You can keep on printing money... but the rest of the world bases value on gold and silver, not paper.

Most of my income comes from the States. A year or so ago I would go to bank with a $7,500 USD check and it would become a $10,000 CAD deposit (after transfer fees). Now, I come to the bank with a $7,500 USD check and it turns into a $6,900 check.

One of the reasons I see this happening...

I slowly see our free market society creeping into a socialist mentality. I see people making six figures incomes having to pay 40-50% of that to the government in taxes, while people making $20K a year owe nothing and instead receive money from the government.

As Dan Kennedy said in his most recent No B.S. Marketing newsletter...

I am profoundly frustrated at the public's eagerness to accept schemes such as Hillary's proposed gifting of every baby born with a $5,000.00 bond intended to provide paid-for -- i.e. "free" -- college education or home down-payment, thus initiating entitlement and dependence on government, a looking to others to give you things literally cradle to grave, at birth, just as I'm bemused by people believing that such things as a $170-million product launch days are a matter of luck, thus undeserved and unearned.

I've been on all sides of the fence in my short life, with the government. Receiving a mere $425 a month (barely covered rent) when I fell very sick and had to go on welfare for two months... to sending them checks that represented nearly half of my year's labor. Either side is grim.

Michael Moore recently praised Canada's government funded health care system in his movie SICKO. I don't know what he was talking about. The system is falling to pieces. It sounds good in theory, and works well for emergencies... but when people know they've got health coverage, they are far less willing to prevent sickness.

And how does the U.S. government expect to pay for its rising health care costs with the approaching baby boom. Especially when the President is spending trillions on a "preventive" war that goes against the country's Constitution.

Right now the U.S. is borrowing millions from China and Japan. But they will only lend so much before they want to collect. I wonder what Congress is using as collateral?

Anyway, the point of my email is to bring your attention to a Republican congressman who is running for president in 2008. Even though he is a Republican, he has voted against most of his parties decisions. His name is Dr. Ron Paul. He spent most his life being an OB/GYN delivering thousands of a babies. He has been married to the same woman for 30  years. He sends back part of his "salary" to the U.S. treasury. He votes consistently and with integrity on issues. He has received more money than any other candidate from military officers. He has the largest self-propelled Internet campaign in the history of politics.

He has ended my apathy about politics.

I'm supporting him financially, as well as using my various email lists to promote him. I do this at risk of annoying, offending and repelling subscribers who would purchase items from me in the future. I may very well lose money from this email.

I don't care.

More important things at stake.

In short, Ron Paul's campaign focuses around...

- Getting rid of income tax.

- Putting an end to foreign intervention and "empire building."

- Sticking to what the founding fathers outlined in the Constitution.

- Getting the troops out of Iraq (a third world country with no army, no "weapons of mass destruction" and little to do with September 11th--the Taliban are in Pakistan!).

- Reducing the involvement of government in people's lives.

- Removal of government regulatory boards, such as the FDA (extremely corrupt and harmful) and the proposed committee to censor the Internet.

- And much, much, more, all around returning freedom to people and taking away control form the government.

As an entrepreneur I strongly resonate with what Ron Paul is saying.

If you have been working as a copywriter for long, you know that earning money isn't a matter of luck (95% of the time). You know that those receiving six- or seven-figure incomes worked very hard and earned every penny (95% of the time).

You also know they should be able to decide what they want to do with that money. The government shouldn't be taking ownership of their lives. Money is earned by sacrificing your life in the form of time.

Some people proclaim they we must have a welfare state in order to survive. What about poor and disabled people?

Well, the welfare state can't sustain itself, first. Secondly, there were a lot less poor people when we lived in a true free market society. At least, as far as I can tell from the history books and listening to my grandparents.

I also know that when people are able to keep more of their money, and aren't forced to struggle to meet bills, etc., they are much more generous. Seems like there used to be a lot more charitable organizations many years ago. The hospital where my son was born is lined with black and white photographs from when the nuns of St. Joseph were managing the place.

Would the type of America Ron Paul proposes be free of problems? No.

That's reality. But I think it would have a lot fewer problems than it faces now.

And it would certainly have none of the problems that are looming on the horizon.

Here is a short CNN video about Ron Paul, I'd appreciate it if you would watch it...

==> Ron Paul Video

And here is his website where you can see more videos, radio ads, and read (in plain English) about his platform...

More info at Ron Paul's main web site.

If you're from outside of the United States, I'd encourage you to consider donating money (even $20) to his campaign. Canadian naturalist and writer, Farley Mowat, once said, "South America is the U.S.'s field slaves, and Canada is its house slaves." Interpret that as you will. But if we can get a man of integrity like Dr. Ron Paul as President of the United States it will set an example that will spread all over the world.

And, if you are American, I simply ask that you look into Ron Paul and consider electing him President of your country.

I think he is your last hope.

Sincerely,

John C. A. Manley

Mr. Whipple Died Today

Dick Wilson, the man better known as "Mr. Whipple," died today, Nov. 19, at age 91.

Mr. Whipple earned his fame in more than 500 Charmin commercials between 1964 and 1985. He was famous for telling consumers, "Don't squeeze the Charmin."

Wilson's commercials were living proof that you can drive sales with commercials that irritate TV viewers.

On a side note, Dick Wilson's character is where Luke Sullivan got the title for his advertising book, Hey Whipple, Squeeze This.

Radiohead's Brilliant Marketing Stunt

Radiohead is all over entertainment news right now.

Why?

Because they've created a new album called In Rainbows... and they're giving it away FREE starting October 10, 2007.

In fact, they are letting fans pay whatever they want for the album, including nothing at all.

As a result, Radiohead is getting tons of press. I imagine their fan base will grow by at least 50% from the exposure.

So how will Radiohead make money?

Of course, there will be some donations, of which they'll keep 100% since they don't have to split it with a record label.

More importantly, their live concerts will be more likely to sell out.

The precedent has already been set by Prince. He released a free album earlier this year and then proceeded to perform at 21 sold-out concerts in London.

In marketing and advertising circles, we call this "back-end marketing." Make the free or inexpensive sale first, then sell the customer a higher priced product on the back end--for instance, a concert.

Bravo to Radiohead for being willing to take a risk. Let's see how long it takes for other musicians to give this business model a test-drive.

James Brausch Has a Problem...

James Brausch has a problem.

It involves mistreatment at the hands of CDBaby, a company James uses to distribute his CDs. Apparently, CDBaby may be involved in contest fixing.

Anyway, James has asked for his readers to respond to the question: "What would you do?" He has already suggested a lawsuit, doing nothing, chalking it up to a learning experience, etc.

If I was in James shoes, I'd be angry. I'd feel slighted. And I'd want to do something about it. Nobody likes to be treated unfairly. But before I offer any advice, let me share a minor situation that happened to me this past week.

As you might already know, I recently wrote and published "How to Get Your First Copywriting Client in 14 Days or Less." It is available on Clickbank.

So far, I've had a very low return rate. But one customer who requested a refund stood out. He bought my report and returned it only a couple of hours later.

I remembered the man's name because he had purchased one of James Brausch's products on my recommendation last fall. The man then requested a refund for that product as well... about three days later.

By all appearances, this man is a criminal.

I was prepared to publicly humiliate this man and warn other info marketers to delete his name from their lists. But that's the human in me talking.

As I did my reading this morning, I was reminded of my higher calling. By quoting what I read today, perhaps I can remind James of his higher calling, too.

But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Jesus spoke these words in Luke 6:27-36.

I tell you what, it is hard to love your enemies! And yet it is what God calls us to do.

My advice is simply this: Be merciful. Turn the other cheek. Pray for those who mistreat you.

Federal Reserve History Lesson

There has been quite a bit of interest in my post about the abolition of the federal income tax.

I checked my stats, and many more people than usual have clicked through to the article. Just a few minutes ago, Michael Roach left a comment:

Ok, the article tries to explain it in "layman's terms", but how about in VERY layman's terms?

Will you no longer be paying taxes, Ryan?

What will this mean for Canadian taxes, I wonder? Or should I just pack up and move south?

Hmmm. You have me intrigued with this post!

I wrote a response, but it became so long, I figured it might as well be a regular blog post. So keep reading... maybe you'll learn something. :-)

******

Michael - Right now, I plan to continue to pay my taxes.

I'm no lawyer, but here's how I understand it: The IRS was challenged and did not respond, therefore they lose.

Something to that effect.

Keep in mind, law doesn't matter when it comes to government. They'll enforce what they choose to enforce.

Speaking from a worldly perspective, the Federal Reserve was created in 1914. It is a private institution. They print money and loan it to the American people with interest.

A good gig, eh? I'll give you paper, and you pay me back in perpetuity... with interest!

The private bankers tried to get it passed for decades and failed. They succeeded once, but it was repealed. Then President Woodrow Wilson signed it into law in 1914. Afterwards, he said, "I have unwittingly ruined my country."

It's my understanding the IRS exists because of the Federal Reserve. Neither are government owned. They simply benefit the private bankers behind it.

I suggest you read "Make IRS check payable to stockholders of private Fed." It's a short read, yet extremely helpful in understanding the issue.

You've heard of Ayn Rand, yes? You've heard of Alan Greenspan, too? Greenspan was a devout student of Rand. Read Atlas Shrugged and you'll get a good idea of what the Federal Reserve is all about.

Re: Canada and how all this affects you... I don't know.

I do know there are talks of uniting America, Canada, and Mexico into one nation called the North American Union. Currency would be changed to the "Amero." The Constitution would be history. Literally. (In fact, it mostly is already.)

Just do a search and you'll see.

Of course, there's much going on behind the scenes spiritually, but I'll leave that topic for another time. ;-)

Goodbye Federal Income Tax

This was too good not to share, even though it's a bit off topic.

DOA: The Federal Income Tax Officially Died Today (3/27/2007)

I've known for some time that the federal income tax was illegal. Maybe now Americans will begin to see the light. Pass it on.

Loose Change

Last night, I watched Loose Change, a documentary that questions the validity of the conventional explanation for the events of 9/11.

I must say, it's the most shocking movie I've watched this year. I encourage you to download it and watch it for free.

Whether or not you agree with it, it's quickly becoming a part of our social fabric. (It's one of the most successful Internet movies of all time.)
