Starbucks are real smart for a coffee shop. (Next on my stack of books to read is "The Starbuck Experience").

Smart viral idea, though they lose a point for using the Flash system, which took about 15 seconds to load on my DSL connection. Too long, and absolutely unnecessary.

Particularly when the design was nothing impressive. I thought, for a 15 second load, I'd be blown away. Instead, it lacked any appeal, no real pics of friends meeting in Starbucks having a good time... and the font was a hard to read colour and size on a conflicting background.

Good idea, bad execution.

I'd say your analysis is right-on, John.

One thing that surprised me is that they actually have options on the home page... like "What's New."

Hey, I'm here to send an invitation, okay?!

A little understanding of direct response (offer readers one choice, etc.) would be helpful for the marketing folks at Starbucks.

On a side note, I did notice they're using WebTrends Live to track user behavior. So they are watching what site visitors are doing. Maybe it will help them make improvements...

Hi Ryan,

You should open your front door and look on your porch.

You had a package delivered about an hour ago.

Yep, I got it. Your timing is uncanny. The UPS guy knocked only a few minutes before I saw your comment.

Our gang all gets together weekly at starbucks. By using my Starbucks Visa Credit Card I'm pretty much drinking free coffee all the time.
