A couple of days ago, I received an email from Trey. He writes:
Some time back you said that if I had any other questions, feel free to ask. Well, I'm taking you up on that offer.
I have read your Blog pretty regularly. I have read tons of posts on AWAI (and Early to Rise for that matter). And clearly, you come across as a humble but professional, interesting and capable guy. I'm interested in your story.
There is a post on the AWAI site from someone with a great deal of respect for you that says, basically, you are the real deal. A guy who started with the AWAI course and then (insert hard work and determination here) became a success. That same post advises others to ask you, "How did you do it?"
So, Ryan, "How did you do it?"
After I responded to Trey, I realized that you could benefit from the advice too. So here is the response I gave. I hope you find it helpful.
I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow, which is why I have not yet responded. Trying to tie up loose ends before I leave.
Real quick:
1. Make a list of actions you will take within 30 days to get your business rolling.
2. Do something every day to market yourself, no matter how big or small.
3. Get uncomfortable, and cold call if you have to.
I called on flyers that were left on my door to see if I could rewrite them for $250. I also contacted people through DirectResponseJobs.com. That is how I got my first few clients.
From there, I quickly moved to seminars as a means of meeting people and picking up clients. I invested money when I didn't have any.
Make sure you do good work so you get testimonials and referrals. I am very aggressive with getting testimonials. They are your bridge to your next project.
Hope this helps, Trey.
Ryan,
Your point about being "aggressive" with getting testimonials, I take to heart.
I'm good at getting my clients testimonials -- need to work more at getting testimonials from them.
